Creative Aquariums: Exploring Underwater Elements

We took a deep dive into the vibrant world beneath the waves in our art class! Our focus? Perspective! We learned how to create an illusion of depth by positioning fish to float above the background, drawing viewers into our immersive underwater scenes.

Starting with watercolours, we embraced the fluidity that mirrors the ethereal quality of underwater environments. From wet-on-wet washes to dry brush strokes, we captured the enchanting movement and texture of aquatic life. Next, we layered on pencil overlays to add intricate details, emphasizing elements like delicate fish fins and undulating seaweed. This technique enriched our visual narratives and showcased our creative process.

But we didn’t stop there! We embraced mixed media to transform our 2D art into stunning 3D pieces. Using textured papers, LED lights, pearls, crystals, shells and found objects, we created depth and dimension that invites viewers to engage from all angles!

This project not only sharpened our technical skills but also fostered collaboration and community. Sharing ideas and techniques highlighted the importance of support and feedback in our artistic journey.

All art classes and workshops can be altered to meet any grade level or expectation.
