Whimsical Jellyfish in Mixed Media
Our young artists explored the magical world of jellyfish using professional-grade watercolour paper and a variety of mixed media techniques. From vibrant watercolours to sparkly fabric paints, each student created their own unique jellyfish masterpiece.
We focused on the elements of design - line, shape, colour, texture and space—encouraging our students to express their creativity while learning about composition and artistic expression. The results? A stunning array of colourful, whimsical jellyfish that truly showcase their imagination!
This lesson not only engages students in a hands-on art project but also provides a strong foundation in the principles of design, allowing for personal expression and creativity.
Connection to the Elements of Design:
Line: The tentacles and body of the jellyfish can be outlined with different thicknesses to create interest.
Shape: Students can explore organic shapes, promoting understanding of both realistic and abstract forms.
Colour: Encourage discussions on colour theory, such as warm vs. cool colours, and how colours can evoke feelings.
Texture: Different media offer varied textures; students will experience firsthand the difference between smooth watercolour and the texture of sparkles.
Space: By planning their compositions, students will learn to create balance and focus within their artwork.
Beyond just art, this lesson served as a beautiful reminder of uniqueness and diversity. Just like jellyfish come in countless shapes, sizes and colours, each of us is beautifully distinct and effervescent in our own way. We celebrated how our differences make us special and how we can shine in our own sparkling light.
All art classes and workshops can be altered to meet any grade level or expectation.
